Credentials You Can Verify

• PE — Professional Engineer, the full engineering license.
• SE — Structural Engineer, a separate license in some states for certain building and bridge work.
• PLS — Professional Land Surveyor.
• EIT/EI — Engineer in Training / Engineer Intern, certification after passing the FE exam.

If an engineer is licensed in multiple states, verify each state separately — licenses do not automatically transfer, although most states grant licensure by comity to engineers already licensed elsewhere.
